So, if you've never been to Camp Pendola before, here is an example of what a week might look like for you. All of the activities you see here might be rearranged according to cabin assignments. Don't worry! Every cabin will have the opportunity to do these or similar activities during their stay. Each week offers different activities that take place in the afternoon during festival scheduling. Some afternoon activities are based on the theme of the week. Festival scheduling gives you the chance to do your favorite activity several times, or to try something new you’ve never heard of.
If you have joined us at Camp Pendola before, just take a look through all of the great things you were able to do and remember the great times we had. Are you going to come back this next summer? We sure hope you do!
Campers Arrive between 2 and 4 p.m. They travel with their family by car or ride up on the bus and have time to meet cabin mates. The Treasure Shack is open so you can place an order for a cabin photo. Or maybe you want a new sweatshirt or water bottle for the week. Make sure you tell your counselor some of the things you want to do while at Camp Pendola. All campers check in with the our Health Center Supervisor before heading up to the cabins. If there is time, the whole cabin heads to the pond for a simple swim check. When all cabins have finished settling in for the week ahead it's time to celebrate Mass. A little more free time to get to know cabin mates better and then it's time for Flag Lowering and Dinner. To wrap up the first day, each cabin will do a little Skit Planning to prepare for the Sunday opening campfire.
Monday morning is the traditional Polar Bear Swim for those brave enough to bear (no pun intended) the cold waters of the pond. Then flag raising and morning prayer leads us into a delicious Breakfast. Which morning will your cabin have the opportunity to lead morning prayer? Cabin groups participate in activity sessions together and this morning a cabin might do both archery and arts and crafts or they might have to pack for their campout and leave for campsite! Which campsite in Tahoe National Forest will you get to go to this year? Exploring and relaxing in the woods plus cooking your dinner is all a part of the adventure.
A good overnight sleep under the stars, preparing your own breakfast and a hike to return to camp makes you want to put down your backpack and take a break. There still is a lot to do like camp kapers and showers before Lunch. Maybe if you got everything done early your cabin can choose to go to the game room for a while. Another group of campers is headed out on their overnight. You'll have to compare stories when they get back to see if their food was as good as yours!! After all of that hiking, everyone is pretty tired so B.O.B. time lets you take a break. Now you're feeling ready for more fun. Afternoon activities allow you to chose what you want to do. It’s called festival scheduling. Maybe you’ll choose to use the kayaks or paddleboats at the pond or tie dye in arts and crafts. Did YOU remember to pack a 100% cotton tee shirt to tie dye? Thats okay if you didn't, you might choose to make homemade ice cream on the dining room deck instead! Some days your cabin will have a chance to plan some activities to do. Remember on Sunday when you told your counselor what you would like to do this week? Well now is the time to plan something that isn't on the schedule. Is your cabin assigned to lower the flag before Dinner? Do you remember how to fold the American flag? If not your counselor will help. Every night in camp has lawn games followed by a different activity every night with the whole camp. Maybe tonight was Wild Thing is the Forest followed by a night hike. By then it's time for evening prayer in your cabin and a good night sleep for another day of fun tomorrow.
Is it already time to wake up? After a good night of sleep, it is nice to begin the day with morning prayer. We'll gather on the main lawn for prayer just before heading off for a great Breakfast in the dining hall. You've got to give yourself some energy for nature activities. Maybe today is the day you get to find out about our water shed with a hike to the spring. OR maybe you get to turn over that dead log along the trail and check it out with magnifying glass. EEEWWW ...what kind of bug is that??? What fun! If you haven't had a chance, today is a great time to play some Carpetball or maybe your cabin can fit in some time at the Sling Shot range. Another afternoon of Festival Scheduling. We end our evening with a special Spiritual activity in the Chapel.
Another set of cabin activities and you'll get to try a new project in arts and crafts and learn some great new things in nature activities. There is always something fun to learn and do at Camp Pendola. How would you like to have some pond time this afternoon while it's hot ? Ahh, refreshing and cool water. Evening is coming, so we gather for flag and make our way to Dinner. Then the cabins will meet on the lawn for another lawn game. Maybe tonight it is Capture the Flag. Then you can join in a glow dance party in the Dining Room. Glow sticks and a photo booth on the deck makes this a great activity for all ages. Camp will come to a quiet close with lights out until the next great day at camp.
What a good night of sleep! Morning prayer and then another great Breakfast will get us started on the right foot today. Now it's time for the day to get really exciting! At Lunch today is when it all starts. What starts? Why, PARTY DAY of course! What could finish up our week better than a whole afternoon of wild games for the whole camp? Who will you get wet with a water balloon? Well, when you finally get tired, it will be time for Flag, but that isn't the end of the day. Your cabin will do some more skit planning to prepare for a great Friday campfire where we will laugh, sing, and find out which cabin won the Cabin of the Week (Super C.O.W.) Award! Now, you can start getting tired. Whew, it's time to get ready for bed and lights out after a long day of fun. Be sure to be quiet when you are in your cabin. The serenaders will be coming to sing you to sleep with your favorite songs of the week. Good night!
The sun just keeps on rising every morning and we continue to thank God in morning prayer. Today is the end of our week together and so after Breakfast if you haven't already finished, we all pack up all of our things and say our goodbye's to new friends and old. The Treasure Shack is open again so you can get one more set of Pendola buttons to trade before you head out. We'll see you here again next year, but for now it is time to head out. It was great having you here at camp!

Evening activities include everyone in camp. Sunday and Friday nights are all camp campfires. One night will be your overnight, but then when you are in camp maybe it will be Capture the Flag, or Wild Thing in the Forest...maybe Spies and Smugglers for the camp game. After that there could be night hikes, outdoor movie night, and Thursday night will be our glow-in-dark dance party.
