School Programs

An environmental, experiential, outdoor education program empasizing Catholic social teaching.

Camp Pendola offers multi-day residential outdoor education programs designed and operated by the Diocese of Sacramento.  In addition, Camp Pendola is a great facility for schools to consider for Confirmation Retreats, Eighth Grade Retreats, and other day or overnight events.

For our outdoor education programs, we work with each school to meet their individual needs both in the area of length and curriculum. Set in the Sierra Nevada’s Tahoe National Forest, the camp serves an average of 65 children from one or more schools each session.  Each school has the opportunity to customize the curriculum to meet their individual needs.

Camp Pendola offers a unique setting for retreats and outtings.  Students ( and chaperone and staff), become unplugged from everyday technology because of our location.  In addition the location immerses participants into the beauty of God's Creation.  This is a great option for you to provide your own retreat, with support options, such as food service, provided by Camp Pendola.  Pricing options are very flexible with this option based on the services provided by camp.

Curriculum Options include:
  • Survival (basics on wilderness safety)
  • Stewardship(activities to empasize our responsitbilities to take care of God's creation)
  • Ecology (presentations and activities to develop an understanding of ecology)
  • Land and Map Navigation(Compasses and Orienteering Maps)
  • Awareness of Our Natural World (activities to deepen awareness, sharpen senses, and  reflect)
  • Recreation (enjoying the natural world responsibly)

"An education in ecological responsibility is urgent: responsibility for oneself, for others, and for the earth. The relationship between a good aesthetic education and the maintenance of a healthy environment cannot be overlooked. Today the ecological crisis has assumed such proportions as to be the responsibility of everyone.”

Pope John Paul II, Peace with God the Creator, Peace with all of Creation, 1990
